Australia Skilled Visa Programs In Skill Select

If you are interested in the following visas, you will need to submit an EOI and receive an invitation before you can apply for an Australia skilled immigration visa:

Subclass 189 Skilled Independent (Permanent)

Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated (Permanent)

Subclass 489 Skilled Regional Nominated or Sponsored (Provisional)

Sub Class 189 for Skilled Independent Visa to Australia

Skilled Independent visa (Sub class 189)

The applicant interested to apply under this stream for Visa, needs to first submit the EXPRESS OF INTEREST through Skill Select portal. Under this stream, you can live and work anywhere in Australia as a Permanent Resident. This scheme is for point-tested skilled professionals who are not sponsored by any employer from Australia or by any family member.

Eligibility for applying under Sub Class 189 Visa –

Should have domain experience (relevant to your qualifications or the Occupation)

Should have a minimum score of 65 points against 100 points in the skills assessment. Factors or Parameters that decide your points are your age, education, language proficiency, experience and spouse profile (if applicable)

Should be under the age of 45 years

Your occupation should be in the declared occupational demand list at the time of invite.

Skilled Nominated Visa for Australia – Sub Class 190

Skilled Nominated Visa (Sub class 190)

The Skilled Nominated Visa for Australia is for those who have a valid nomination from a state or territory Government Agency of Australia. It is again a permanent residency visa with which one can live and work in Australia.

Under this stream, after the Visa is approved, you have to live in that particular state, from where you get the nomination and invitation from, for a minimum of two years. The applicant needs to first submit the EXPRESS OF INTEREST through the Skill Select Portal.

Eligibility for applying under Sub Class 190 Visa –

Should have solid domain experience

Your occupation should be listed in the Skilled Occupational List.

Should have skill assessment done proving skills and education qualification suitable enough for the domain prescribed. You should earn a minimum of 65 points in the skill assessment to qualify for this program.

Once nominated from any state, an extra 5 points gets added to your score.

Should be nominated by the state or territory Government agency

Should be below 45 years of age

Should prove language proficiency

Sub Class 489 for Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa to Australia

Subclass 489 – Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa

The Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa to Australia, is for people wishing to live and work in a lesser popular regions or low population growth areas of Australia. The applicant should obtain a minimum of 60 points in the points test to be eligible for the visa. The applicant needs to first submit an Expression of Interest through Skill Select. Once the applicant secures sponsorship from an eligible relative, he/she will receive an invitation to apply for the visa.

Eligibility to apply for the Visa-

You should be invited to apply

Should be below 45 years of Age

Should be nominated for an occupation which matches the applicant’s qualifications and skills

Should have got skills assessment done with relevant authorities as is needed for the nominated occupation.

Should have a minimum score of 60 points.

Should be able to prove competency in English language.

Should have police certificate for character and health certificate

This is another pathway for migration to Australia. When you get nominated by an Australian employer, you become eligible to apply for Permanent Residency Visa under this scheme.

Should have the necessary skills for the job as recommended by the employer

187 Visa Regional Sponsored Scheme (RSMS)

This visa lets skilled workers, who are nominated by their employer in regional Australia, live and work in Australia permanently.

Eligibility to apply under this category-

Should be nominated by an approved Australian employer from Regional Australia for a job

Should be below the age of 45 years

Should meet the requirements of skills assessment

Should meet the English Language Proficiency benchmark

Should have an occupation which is on the relevant list of eligible skilled occupations at that period of time

Subclass 482​- Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (TSS)

Subclass 482​ – Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (TSS)

This is a temporary visa to live and work in Australia. Those skilled professionals looking to work for a short period of time outside the country can opt for this. This is an Australian employer sponsored visa also known as Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (TSS). The main intention of this visa is to introduce overseas talents in a targeted manner to alleviate the temporary shortage of skills in the Australian labor market.

You can apply under one of the below streams for Subclass 482-

Short-term Stream

Visa is valid for up to 2 years

Application process time is about 3 months

Eligibility Criteria under this stream-

Should meet the English language requirement as defined by the Australian Government

Nominated occupation must be on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)

Should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience

Under this stream, the visa cannot be converted to permanent residence. However, it can be renewed once.

​Medium-term Stream

Visa is valid for up to 4 years

Application time is about 70 days

​Eligibility Criteria under this stream-

Should meet the English language requirement as defined by the Australian Government

Nominated occupation must be on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List(MLTSSL) or Regional Occupation List (ROL)

Should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience

Under this stream, you can switch to Permanent Residence in Australia after 3 years of living and working in Australia under either Subclass 186/187. This would add extra points required under the two schemes as you would already have an Australian work experience.

Labour Agreement Stream

Employers introduce overseas skilled workers from overseas through labour agreements

Application time is about 54 days

Although this is a temporary visa, if the applicant is holding a “medium-term stream” and meet certain conditions, he/she can apply for an Australian employer’s guarantee 186 or 187 visa to obtain permanent residency in Australia. In addition, the applicant gains extra points in the Australia’s work experience which will be another way to apply for the skilled immigrant visas!
